This past week, Owasso Student Council’s philanthropy officers partnered with Make-A-Wish Oklahoma to make an amazing impact within the school and community! Raising money with events of all kinds (bake sales, valentine/winter grams, restaurant nights, community bingo night, etc.)

The incredible feats that aviation has accomplished often go unnoticed today. Luckily, Pryor High School is looking to make students excited about learning skills and techniques to build their own flying machines.

It’s been three years since the Blizzard Entertainment studio announced “Diablo IV”. Between the remaster of “Diablo II” and the release of the mobile port for “Diablo Immortal,” Blizzard (the creator of “Diablo”) has had a lot on its plate; luckily for fans, they rarely disappoint.

Lead roles or first-place talent show wins are common ground for Owasso’s Austin Tate. At only age 16, Tate has already collected an esteemed portfolio working with some of today’s most notorious actors. 

Spring is approaching fast in Owasso. Each morning, the town wakes up to warmer temperatures and sunnier days. The color is returning to plant life and quickly becoming vivid greens, yellows, whites, and purples.

Many people enjoy the chaos that ensues from March Madness; the brackets and betting, the competitions and hurt feelings, the memories made and friendships lost. Some of these people include our very own Owasso High School staff. 

Lana Del Ray always finds a way to slip a memento of her personal life into her albums. Each song encapsulates small bits of her herself through metaphor: a peach sitting in the sun too long, a cherry coke with a bent straw, the warped American Dream. This album, though, feels like a whole museum of her life in song.

A year ago, James Burkhalter was approached by Coach Blankenship and asked to come coach for Owasso’s football team. Burkhalter is in his 18th year of coaching, with Owasso being his fourth instructor position.

The Bailey Education Foundation has put on its third formal dress resale. This event began in 2019, with the exception of 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19. Their sale goes on during the month of March, this year being held on the 25 and 26, though next year they hope to host the event earlier in the month. 

Ms. Chatwin’s force of AP Environmental students is making a name for themselves in the field of hydrogeology as the only high school group presenting at a large Geological Society of America meeting

Incredible female leaders are quite easy to find at Owasso High School. With an admin team led by many amazing women, such as head principal Tiffani Cooper, OHS is equipped with wonderful role models for young women

Every month, the Spanish Club meets with Ms. Avila in her room to eat and learn more about Latin cultures. But recently, they were able to take a trip to Tulsa to indulge in Latin American cuisine.

Artist Solána Rowe, professionally known as SZA, gained major traction through the 2017 release of her album, “Ctrl.” She’s been nominated for many awards and has won a Grammy for her collaboration with artist Doja Cat on the song “Kiss Me More” in 2021.

Last school year, the Lord Mayor of Dublin invited the Pride of Owasso to march and perform in the Saint Patrick’s Day Festival Parade. Fine Arts director Chris Barber decided instead to take the entirety of the department for the week-long adventure in Ireland.

In the world of sports, being a first year head coach is an infamously difficult job. The adversity lies in the pressure to perform and implement a successful system in such a short time frame. But for the Lady Rams Basketball team, first year head coach Kendall Standridge was up to the task.

Ms. Collins has brought some interesting specimens to her Zoology class this year, but the coolest by far would have to be the dogfish sharks.

Owasso is known for its number of fast food restaurants, from chicken huts to burger joints to Mexican restaurants. But Owasso has been missing one important food group: dessert. Braum’s has dominated Owasso’s sugary sweets category, but with new restaurants like Nothing Bundt Cakes opening shop, the people of Owasso are eager to try something new.

As the cold notes of Winter come to a close, the Owasso Animal Shelter does their best to get animals off the street and into warm homes. When you first enter the shelter, you’re met with a sweet Golden Retriever named Sunny, and a welcoming smile from Kasey Greene. 

It’s no secret that the Harry Potter games of the past have been bad, but the newest addition to the franchise didn’t disappoint. Avalanche Software’s “Hogwarts Legacy” is a legacy game in its truest form, taking place in a pre-Potter Hogwarts in the 1800s.

A good chair can change lives. That much we know. In the same degree to which a thoughtful and personable teacher can change your outlook on life, so can a nicely cushioned seat.
