Furry Friends at the Owasso Animal Shelter
By Makayla Sordo
As the cold notes of Winter come to a close, the Owasso Animal Shelter does their best to get animals off the street and into warm homes. When you first enter the shelter, you’re met with a sweet Golden Retriever named Sunny, and a welcoming smile from Kasey Greene.
Thanks to a close friend, Christine Hemsoth (an Animal Control officer,) I was able to get a small profile of the animals currently up for adoption!
As of February 17th, three mixed shepherd puppies are being held at the shelter along with a cat named Mira. The puppies are shy but friendly nonetheless and Mira is a sweet but sassy cat. The four of them are sure to make loyal companions.
Greene mentioned that if the animals are not adopted within a certain amount of time, they send them to rescue centers, where they can more easily be listed and viewed for adoption.
“We don't give them their shots here,” says Greene. “Our job is to enforce the ordinances for pet ownership. We pick up the animals; we keep them safe for however long we can.”
The shelter is always picking up animals off the streets or even saving them from unfit owners. If you’re looking for a friend that needs you just as much as you need them, then the animal shelter is sure to have what you’re looking for. Located by the Owasso Skatepark, just off of Main Street, you can find a lifelong companion.
