Dive Right In: Owasso Swim
By Jackson Nester
The Owasso Swim team had a great start to the season after the team placed second overall at its last meet. This was the team’s third meet of the season and this meet added on to the other two great performances. One of the key factors playing into this tremendous start for the Rams is the performance of their underclassmen.
“The freshmen have done pretty good for it being their first year.” said Ahren Lamb, a Senior who has been on the swim team since his Freshman year.
It is always good for a team to have young, developing talent, and for it to be seen so early in the season by a teammate is rare. This shows how capable this team is of doing something big this year and in years to come.
The most recent meet, in which both the girls and boys team placed second, the upperclassmen assumed their leadership roles and performed well.
“The older kids still have some stuff to work on before we’re ready for state, but we did pretty well.” Lamb remarked.
Of course with it being so early on in the season there’s plenty of room for improvement. However, a second place result in the third meet of the season is not bad at all. On that same note, when one of the swimmers notices how much the team can improve after the third meet it shows how talented this group is and how mature they are as well. With this maturity and talent on the team, the expectations are set pretty high for them this year.
“We have some kids that could do really well throughout this year and there’s also a lot of talented kids right now so we just need to put a lot of work in to meet our expectations.” explained Lamb.
And with every team comes their adversity, but with the Owasso swim team the adversity in the past couple of years has stemmed in spite of not having a pool in the Owasso area that they are able to use. Oftentimes they have to drive to Claremore or Union to get pool time in. As seen in previous years and this season already, they are able to fight and overcome this challenge.
The swim team will look to continue their tremendous start with their next meet in Oologah on Thursday, Dec. 2 at 5:15p.m. So make sure to go out and support your Rams!
