All State Pom Success
By Olivia Voth
Friday, Nov. 12 was an extremely chaotic day for Owasso Pom. The senior girls went to audition for the All-State competitive team and then went straight to performing at the freezing-cold playoff game in Broken Arrow. They were also dubbed Class Champions at their recent Regionals competition! Like other school activities, the All-State team is made up of people from different schools all over the state of Oklahoma and all the seniors from Oklahoma dance teams were allowed to audition. The Owasso seniors worked together to help each other learn the dance and how to improve.
Two of our talented Owasso Pom Seniors made the All-State team: Rebekah Rake and Brynlee Johnson. The girls had a lot to do to prepare for this audition. They were required to learn a routine that consisted of a pom, kick, hip hop and jazz section. They were judged during the audition on performance quality, technique, knowledge of routine and overall skill.
These talented young ladies were under a lot of pressure. They only had one chance to perform in front of the judges’ panel. However, the hard work paid off, but there is still more work to be done while practicing for the All-State performance.
The top 30 dancers from the east and west regions made up the All-Region teams; the top 15 scores from the East and West All-Region made up the All-State team. All of our talented OVP seniors made All-Region East and Rebekah Rake and Brynlee Johnson will be the ones to represent Owasso High School in the All-State performance.
Now that the All-State team has been selected, they move on to learning this years’ routine, but they only have two practices as a full group before they perform it for all to see. There are many talented dancers involved in All-State and Brynlee and Rebekah are able to proudly represent Owasso.
The All-State performance will be taking place on December 18. Owasso Pom is kicking up a storm this season, continuing to be the successful team that we know and love. They won DTU’s Regional Championships in Kick and they also won Best Costume. Congratulations Owasso Pom, and good luck to Rebekah and Brynlee!
