Yung Gravy Album Review

By: Kelli Casteel

Like any other Gravy fan, this album has been long awaited. His last banger, Sensational, is arguably the best album to ever exist. I saw him in concert in OKC in October (and I currently hold tickets to his OKC show in November), and let me tell you- he puts on an amazing show.

Bbno$ was also his DJ, and they are quite a pair. So, when I heard that they were releasing Baby Gravy II, I couldn’t have been more excited. Their pre-releases, Shining on my Ex, Iunno, and Welcome to Chili’s, gave a taste of the album that left every Gravy fan wanting more. And boy, did he give us more.

Are you wondering if it’s as good as his last album? Are you wondering what song best fits each mood? Well, fear not, I’m here to tell you. Below will be the title of the song, then the summary, the best fitting mood for the song, and then my personal rating. Remember, that these songs may be explicit and require parental advisory, so listen at your own risk.

  1. Bandsville

    • Summary: It’s a good song, has notable lines and a nice vibe, but there are better ones on the album.

    • Mood: Mellow/Chill but with upbeat vibes.

    • Rating: 3rd

  2. Justin Bieber Wrist

    • Summary: I don’t like the intro or the overall vibe of the song, though the beat is fire. It’s also more singing than rapping, and there are no stand out lyrics.

    • Mood: On the way back from a friends house or a good night.

    • Rating: 10th

  3. Go Bananas

    • Summary: Has chill vibes, but the lyrics make me feel invincible, like I need to stop procrastinating and get things done.

    • Mood: Cleaning the house/running errands/getting things done.

    • Rating: 7th

  4. Off the Goop

    • Summary: Nice intro, good beat, Bbno$ lyrics aren’t very good but Gravy’s are pretty fire.

    • Mood: Doing homework doesn't distract you but you’re listening to good music during so you’re not bored.

    • Rating: 9th

  5. Gasoline pt. 2

    • Summary: Good beat, good fast rap lyrics, but personally not a favorite. Has an underlying tone of seriousness.

    • Mood: On the way to school, gets you ready for the day.

    • Rating: 8th

  6. Welcome to Chili's

    • Summary: Latin undertones with a nice beat, makes me want to dance to the beat. Nice stand-out lyrics.

    • Mood: Dancing and playful

    • Rating: 5th

  7. Cadbury Creme

    • Summary: Nice intro, good lyrics and “chorus”. I would put higher on the list, but there are just too many bangers. Probably the one I’m looking forward to the most hearing at his concert. Good outro, too.

    • Mood: Anytime, always a bop.

    • Rating: 6th

  8. Iunno

    • Summary: A classic. I will always sing along, no matter what. I would rise from the dead to sing along to. One of his longer songs, too, so the party never ends. The reason it’s 4th is that it gets a little repetitive towards the end, but once you begin to get tired of it- it ends!

    • Mood: Driving with windows down and stereo loud, gets you in a “you only live once” mindset and makes you wanna go out and party with friends and make memories.

    • Rating: 4th

  9. Myrtle Beach Summer

    • Summary: Straight fire, gets you super hype and in a partying mood. Amazing intro which gets you ready for the party of a lifetime, which is listening to the song. Also has underlying 80’s vibes. It is a bit short though.

    • Mood: Party

    • Rating: 2nd

  10. Shining on my Ex

    • Summary: My absolute favorite. Quotable lyrics, fire beat, and all the best parts of a Gravy song. Will make you wanna listen to it on repeat for the rest of your life. Brb, gonna go sing/rap the lyrics at the top of my lungs.

    • Mood: Anytime, seriously. There are no imperfections with this song.

    • Rating: 1st
