Which Wich?

In the small town of Owasso, Oklahoma, there are a plethora of different places for you and your family to indulge in a sub-sandwich. Coming from a family that loves sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner, I decided to take on the honor of trying every single sub-sandwich place located in Owasso and give my honest and possibly brutal thoughts on each one.

Though Subway’s “Eat Fresh” slogan sounds very enticing, their Italian B.M.T sub-sandwich did not have me wanting to come back for more. The sandwich itself was mediocre at best and the experience I got there was not one that anyone should feel left out on. While I can only speak for their location on 129th St., I can only assume the experience won’t differ by much for any of the other locations relatively close by. I wouldn’t recommend Subway to anyone who was looking for an out-of-this-world meal, but for a roughly seven dollar sandwich, it can make for a quick and easy bite.

Now on the other hand, located in Smith Farm Market shopping center, Jersey Mike’s sub-sandwich shop has never failed to impress me. For the store only being there for about a month or so, I've been there a handful of times and have consistently enjoyed every trip. Not only is the staff friendly and attentive, but the sandwiches are always up to standard. You really can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. With prices ranging from $5 to $10 depending on size, Jersey Mike’s sub-sandwiches are arguably a great and affordable meal.

If a chain sub shop isn’t ideal and you’re looking for a one of a kind sandwich place, Giant Subs & Deli is the perfect small sandwich shop. The adorable bright blue building is located on the corner of mainstreet and is never too busy to take your order. The subs alone are great but something about the atmosphere and overall attitude of the shop makes the experience amazing. They also have a small outdoor sitting patio that is great for a summertime lunch. My go to sandwich here is the Philly Sub sandwich and I would happily recommend this place to anyone.

Just a small drive away is Firehouse Subs. Located on Garnett Rd, Firehouse Subs can be found right on the side of the road in the same lot as CiCi's Pizza and Bank of Oklahoma. This was my first time ever trying a sandwich from Firehouse Subs and overall I was not too impressed. The sandwich I chose to try here was their Italian sub. Though I can say it was much better than the one Subway had to offer, it still just didn’t do it for me. Once again however, with the price ranging from about $6 to $8, you are getting what you pay for. I would probably give Firehouse an overall scoring of about four out of ten.

To end on a much better note, I finished my experiment at my very favorite sandwich shop, Schlotskys. There was some debate with myself on whether or not I should include Schlotskys in this because technically it isn’t a sub-sandwich shop but I chose to include it because I love an excuse to stop by Schlotskys anytime I can. Out of all of the times I've been to get a sandwich, I've never had a bad experience. My favorite thing to order here is the Fiesta sandwich. No matter what sandwich you order though, you can’t go wrong. I would definitely recommend Schlotskys to anyone and everyone.

You can truly find a sandwich shop in any direction in Owasso. Whether you want to stop by one of the three Subway locations or indulge in the strongly suggested Schlotskys, you really can’t go wrong. At the end of the day it’s always good to get out and support the businesses around us and keep Owasso thriving.
