Owasso Talent Show Winners (East and West)
By Timmy Keil
Last week, hard work and passion flooded the stage as students showcased their artistic abilities at Owasso High School’s annual talent show. Students expressed a range of abilities, from singing and dancing all the way to plate spinning, yet only one act from each campus was chosen for the winning spot. Austin Goodson (Sophomore) and an acapella group called the Walmart Pentatonix (seniors).
“I started singing during covid out of boredom and my love for acting,” stated Goodson.
“I learned a little on my own watching youtube videos, and then after a year or so, I started becoming professionally trained by a teacher.”
Two years of hard work showed through as Goodson took the stage. When he entered the room filled with cheers, his bright smile and powerful confidence filled the room even before he began to sing.
“I don’t really get nervous. Stage fright isn’t something I’ve ever gotten, and I’m so grateful for that. But I’ve had a tendency to forget the words to songs on stage, and that never leaves my mind. Thankfully, I don’t let it get the best of me,” Goodson stated, happily replaying the performance back in his mind.
On January 27, juniors and seniors took the stage for the same thing. The stakes were higher with double the number of contestants than the day prior.
“We all sing in the choir and after our last concert we all kinda just asked, “why are we not doing the talent show?” asked the six individuals known as Walmart Pentatonix
“I downloaded the sheet music from the actual Pentatonix group and sent it to all of them and it had all of the parts already mapped out, so it didn’t take us long to distinguish and start practicing. I also recorded all of the tracks on my computer by myself and sent it to everyone so we had a better understanding of how our version would sound.” -Walmart Pentatonix
Student’s faced one of the biggest challenges they’ll experience– performing in front of all of their peers. Yet, all showed great showmanship and zero fear. Through these performances, students will feel inspired to get out and show their own talents for the next year.
