Owasso Continues Their Win Streak
By Jackson Nester
The Owasso Rams played the Edmond North Huskies last Friday and won 34-7. The game was tied 7-7 by halftime, but the Rams turned it around in the second half and went on a 27-0 scoring run. The defense played a fantastic game, allowing only seven points and forcing four turnovers. Three of those interceptions were by No. 2 Gage Laney, as well as No. 32 Cody Chase who had an interception returned for a touchdown but was called back due to a Roughing the Passer penalty. I got the chance to interview Cody following the game on Friday night.
The first question I asked Cody was about a play he made in which he tackled a receiver headed for the endzone. Cody barely got his foot, but tackled him and saved a touchdown for the Rams, which eventually led to an interception. I asked Cody why he didn’t give up on the play when many would.
Cody replied, “honestly, I didn’t want to get chewed out by my coaches. I didn’t think I would be able to make the play, but because I didn’t give up, I was able to make a play which ultimately led to the interception.”
That play occurred in the second quarter wherein the game played back and forth between the two teams. However, after halftime, the Rams ran away with the game. Such leads me to my next question: “What was said in the locker room that changed the way you guys played?”
Cody answered with, “It wasn’t what they said at halftime, it was the players’ mindset and the way we play.”
Cody gets double digit tackles almost every game he plays, and he got several tackles on Friday night. “How do you rack up so many tackles? What’s the secret?
“It's the position that I play. The boundary side allows me to be in the play almost every down, so I get in there and try to make something happen.”
The final question I asked Cody was about the team’s recent yet notable success. On that subject, he had this to say: “Our coaching has been remarkable over the past two years. Also, we have a pretty veteran group of players that show up and get the job done.”
The Rams next game is Thursday, October 15th against Southmoore in Southmoore. Make the trip out there and support the Rams as they try to continue their undefeated season and journey to the playoffs.
