NNA wins Owasso Dodgeball Tournament, emerge world champions

On April 20, war broke out in the east gym. Dodgeballs soared through the air, indiscriminately pelting teams vying for the ultimate victory. Just one team would emerge as champions: Team ‘NNA.’ They celebrated their win with a victory lap, proudly displaying their massive trophy as they circled the gym floor.
“We’re feeling pretty good,” commented Derrick Overstreet, a member of Team ‘NNA,’ moments after winning the championship game.
Fifteen teams fought for the championship title in the grueling single-elimination tournament hosted by the Senior Board. The tournament, arguably more important than the Super Bowl, raised over $2,900 for the Senior Class of 2022 through ticket sales and teams signing on.
“We were feeling great, all the hype, everything,” Alonso Jimenez of Los Pollos Hermanos described.
Going into the championship game, hype was high and expectations were through the roof. One would be forgiven for assuming they were attending a Roman gladiator match. International fame was certainly on the line as Team ‘NNA’ and the ‘Elite 8’ walked to opposite sides of the court.
The championship game was not the only highlight, though. While some games were predictable, some came down to nerve-racking ends. Many found themselves last on their team, dodging volleys and attempting to lead heroic comebacks. Besides outcomes, certain fashion choices surprised the audience: notably, Gideon Hays of the ‘Striders’ chose to go barefoot.
“I felt great… shoes [could] weigh me down,” stated Hays after the game. In response to the controversy, he declared “Y’know, everybody be hating on it, but they don’t be playing.”
While ‘NNA’ may have won the title for 2022, some speculate the tournament will return next year. Perhaps the Owasso Dodgeball League could be born. The student body seems to be in consensus that the event was a massive success and sheer joy would accompany a tournament next year.
