On November 8th, many Owasso student athletes signed contracts to commit to universities on athletic scholarships. This crucial step in their lives symbolizes an athlete's end to a long recruiting process and the start of new beginnings in college.

Kiya Colvin, a senior at Owasso High School, Signed her National Letter of Intent to Stetson University. It was a long and arduous process for Colvin, but her determination has helped her succeed at her goals.

“My recruiting process was extremely rough, but I knew that God wouldn’t put me through all of that for nothing. A lot of people didn’t agree with some of the decisions I was making and tried to help me make [them], but I knew that it was ultimately my life and it was a thing for me and God to decide.”

Colvin has had plenty of decisions to make throughout recruitment, and she has more than enough experience with the system to give advice to others.

“My advice [is] to always keep faith, even when things seem impossible. I also advise to not let other people influence your decision. At the end of the day, it is your life, and you know what is best for you.”

Adding on, she states, “Also, do not settle. If a school doesn’t provide everything you need, then don't go there.”

Besides the Stetson athletic program, Colvin also chose Stetson for its academics. There is one more thing that excites Colvin about Stetson.

“I'm right by the beach!”

Past college, Colvin is preparing to play volleyball as a setter at the national level. Although Colvin hasn't been setting for long, she hopes to improve her game.

“I know that I can reach the highest level with hard work and putting God first.”

Colvin is a prominent example of those who have gone through the recruitment process and signed their National Letter of Intent. These athletes are tireless and diligent with their work and deserve to be recognized.
