Lighting up the hearts of Owasso residents
By Alivia Williams
On Saturday, Nov. 26, the city of Owasso held Lights on Owasso. This event included the lighting of the 34’ tree in Redbud Park on Main Street. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions, other activities were canceled, such as pictures with Santa, caroling, food trucks, etc. Despite these limiting circumstances, Owasso residents came together as a community to watch the tree lighting.
Oftentimes, plans don’t turn out exactly as imagined. Whether it be weather, illness or some other factor, schedules get thrown off, and things get canceled. Owasso residents did not let the rain ruin their night or their Christmas spirit. Moods were bright in anticipation of the brilliant display yet to come. At 6 p.m., the tree was lit. As a community, Owasso shows up strong. Even though a large part of the activities were canceled, Owasso inhabitants made the best of their situation.
At this time of year, it’s important to focus on what’s important: bringing people together. Being with family and friends is the theme of the holiday season, so it’s important that the community brings opportunities to bring people of all ages together.
Owasso’s Recreation and Culture Department does its best to plan events accordingly, and they do a great job of scheduling fun activities for local families. Be on the lookout for events in the Owasso area. There are many holiday festivities outside of Lights on Owasso to enjoy, such as the annual Christmas Parade that was on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Smith Farm MarketPlace.
This holiday season, remind your loved ones that you care about them. Every passing holiday season can feel rushed and hectic, but there’s a lot of joy this time of year. Don’t take the things you love for granted, and be generous with what you have. Everyone could use a little kindness all year round. Happy Holidays!
