Lax Is Life

By Ian Busking

Lax, a popular nickname for lacrosse, has been a very up and coming sport in the town of Owasso and all across the state of Oklahoma. The sport is a fast paced game and is exciting to watch as a spectator. This was especially seen on Tuesday, when the whole entire sideline of the football field on the track was filled with parents, friends and others who have heard about this matchup. The game was against Tulsa Alliance, which is a team filled with players from many different private schools in Tulsa… all facing off against Owasso.

Before the game, there was a sense of nervousness from both sides of the field. The number one ranked team trying to defend their home turf against the number two team. The start of the game, the sky is light blue with lighting striking in the distance. The mood was set for this tense game.

Junior Jackson Nester comments that, “There were definitely a lot of nerves on the field before the game but, for me, I was filled with excitement and couldn’t wait to get the game started.”

The Rams started the game off strong by getting a couple goals early, but the Alliance fought back and kept the game very close. With a last second goal at halftime, they were up eight to seven against Owasso.

This is where the wait began. The storm came near and there was a 30 minute rain delay. Shortly after, the game got rescheduled to Friday because the rain was nowhere near over. This gave both teams time to practice and figure out what they needed to do better to win the game.

Nester says that, “In between, [the games] we got to watch film and practiced to try and adjust to see what we could do better.”

Going into the second half of the game, the Rams once again were off to a great start with an early goal by Nester to tie the game up. After this, the game went back and forth and ended up being tied with the last minute remaining.

“I feel like we had control of the second half honestly, with around five minutes left we were up by two and in the driver's seat, but some sloppy turnovers on the offensive end gave them a chance to score and come back” said Nester.

The unthinkable happened and Tulsa Alliance scored with two seconds remaining in the game for the buzzer beater goal. Despite the loss, the Rams showed that they can compete against any team in their league and have a great shot at winning the championship this season.
