Tulsa-area holiday fun!
By Olivia Kerber
While the holiday season is a time of giving to your loved ones, the holiday is also characterized by spending time with them.During this season, it can be very “merry” to find activities that cost little to no money and give you quality time with the ones dearest to you. Let’s look at some.
Rhema Christmas Lights
Every year since 1982, the Rhema Christmas lights shine brightly across the Rhema Bible Church campus. With vibrant colors everywhere you walk, you will be captivated by the pure whimsy of the show. During your visit, you will see many displays, ranging from nativity scenes to western rodeos to Santa and his reindeer. There are shacks with snacks and hot chocolate available with purchase. My favorite part of the Rhema Christmas lights is the pond in the middle with ducks, whom you can feed with pellet feed that costs only a quarter. While admission is free, Rhema offers carriage rides with an additional cost, but is by no means the only way to experience the wonder of these Christmas lights.
Arvest Winterfest Ice Skating
Located outside of the BOK center, at Arvest Winterfest you are able to see all of Tulsa’s alluring downtown buildings in a scenic view of the city. Furthermore, there is a large Christmas tree set up outside of the rink. Gliding across the ice is a way to get your body moving—even when it’s freezing outside. The fluidity of ice skating can be soothing, especially when you have your friends skating there by your side (or there holding your hand, trying to not fall themselves). A ticket to the ice skating attraction costs fifteen dollars, but if you are an Arvest customer or Cox customer, your ticket is discounted to eight dollars!
Roosevelt’s Gastropub
Roosevelt's Gastropub is a great spot for those who are craving a burger, but it is also a beautiful spot for those looking for some holiday cheer. Every square inch of the restaurant's ceiling is covered in ornaments and holiday lights, so when you are feasting on your meal, you can simultaneously feast your eyes on the magnificent decorations. The restaurant’s only flaw: the wait for a table. During the holiday season, Roosevelt’s does not take reservations. This means you might have to put your name on a list and wait to be seated for up to a couple hours. It’s your choice to decide if the wait is worth it or not. Of course, there is no traditional “ticket” into Roosevelt’s, but rather, your “ticket” is your purchase of food at the restaurant.
Route 66 Christmas Chute
Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Route 66 Christmas Chute is a fairly recent tradition, considering this is its third year being open. Many picturesque ornaments line Sapulpas main street, but this isn’t the only attraction to the Christmas Chute. The street is additionally lined with props, lights and Christmas pop culture characters. Considering that the event is on Sapulpas main street, there are many local businesses running parallel to the decorations. While attending, many purchase items from these shops, and this influx of consumers has actually boosted Sapulpas economy in recent years. Within the decorations, there are different themes for each “section” of the ornaments. Each section also has five hidden objects for a scavenger hunt, which you can find the guide for online. This makes the Christmas Chute interactive, which is great for families with children. There is no fee to enter the Route 66 Christmas Chute, making this price-friendly to all.
