Summer Quaran-tunes

By Emily McCaslin

Despite recents events, musicians are still finding a way to give us their work. I included some recent albums that came out during or around quarantine, along with my three favorite songs from each.

1. CALM- 5 Seconds of Summer

-Wildflower

-High

-Lover of Mine

These songs are a mix of rock and pop (just like the title)! They have some calming songs as well as upbeat tunes thrown in the mix.

2. Three. Two. One. - Lennon Stella

-Kissing Other People

-Save Us

-Goodnight

Lennon Stella has a very soothing voice. A lot of her songs are slower in tempo, creating smooth settings and vibes for even the more lethargic of listeners. You can truly hear her emotion.

3. ~how i’m feeling~- Lauv

-Sims

-Feelings

-i’m so tired…

Lauv does not hold back when showing us his true feelings, hence the title. He won’t hesitate to tell it like it is, which makes this album a real one. Give it a chance, and you won’t regret it.

4. After Hours- The Weeknd

-Blinding Lights

-In Your Eyes

-Save Your Tears

This album will transport you straight back to the 80s. You’ll feel like you should be wearing leg warmers and headbands, and though the image may be somewhat frightening, these songs have a reassurance to them that promises nothing but smooth vibes the whole ride back.

5. The Slow Rush- Tame Impala

-One More Year

-Lost in Yesterday

-Breathe Deeper

All of these songs are very smooth and relaxing. This is definitely an album you can vibe to. Ever dream something ethereal and frightening, yet nearly perfect in its beauty? Tame Impala has, and they’re here to let the world know.

6. Future Nostalgia- Dua Lipa

-Physical

-Don’t Start Now

-Break My Heart

Dua Lipa’s style is definitely songs that you can dance to. They’re very upbeat, but not oppressively so; Lipa’s music is never afraid to have a quiet moment, nor will it ever put you in a bad mood.

If you are anything like me, music helps you cope with life’s struggles and hardships. Whenever you are feeling stressed or just having a dance party, use any of these albums to cheer you up.
