Region 7 Volleyball Coach of the Year: Coach Kannett

Coach Kannett, coach of the Owasso volleyball team, accomplished a great achievement this year by earning the Region 7 Volleyball Coach of the Year. This award carries a lot of meaning to Coach Kannett, but not the meaning that most people would think.

“It’s an award that my peer coaches vote on, so it means I’m respected and I’m admired by them to represent the region,” said Coach Kannett in regards to what the award meant to her. 

Winning such a big award requires a lot and is a testament to who she is as a coach and person. It requires things such as motivation and determination which Coach Kannett definitely has. 

Coach Kannett reflected on a source of inspiration that led her to want to be a coach in the first place saying, “[My] high school volleyball coach here at Owasso. Playing for her [Coach Murski] had an impact on my life.”

Most people have someone that they like to call a role model, but oftentimes this doesn’t lead to wanting to have the same occupation as them and following their career path almost identically. However, this was the case for Coach Kannett as Coach Murski had such an impact on Coach Kannett’s life that she ended up having the same position, head coach of the Owasso volleyball team, as her role model. Coach Kannett wants to replicate the kind of impact that Coach Murski had on her to her current players. 

“[I] look forward to continuing to have a positive impact on their [her players] lives, be a role model [and be] someone they look up to,” Kannett commented. 

Along with these hopes for the future, Coach Kannett has a couple goals in mind for the upcoming season. 

“[My goals are] To host regionals, make it to state and more importantly make it past the first round, ” expressed Coach Kannett. 

The Rams have been to State five out of the eight times that Coach Kannett has been head coach, but have yet to make it past the first round of State. So, this is one of Coach Kannett’s main goals to focus on in years to come. 

Coach Kannett had an outstanding season this year as the coach for the Owasso Volleyball team and achieved an incredible accomplishment. She’s already looking towards the next season showing just how dedicated of a coach she is and reinforcing why her coaching peers voted for her as district coach of the year. Be ready to support coach Kannett and our Owasso Lady Rams Volleyball team in their 2022 season next school year!
