Many students have hobbies and abilities to make some extra cash, and for senior Parker Baskerville her entrepreneurial spirit fuels her side job. Baskerville has been baking for her business Kraken Cookies since 2022.

“I actually started baking just because I wanted a hobby … and I wanted to make something from scratch,” expresses Baskerville. “I was just really drawn to baking. I made a big batch of snickerdoodles and I was sharing them with my friends. … Then I thought maybe I should start selling them; that's kind of how it got started.”

Snickerdoodle cookies are not the only thing that Baskerville makes and sells.

“I [make] cakes and stuff for special orders. I really do love those [cakes] because I love icing. I mostly sell cookies, like your classic chocolate chip, and I also do cookies with icing on them. They’re like Crumbl but way cheaper and way better,” explains Baskerville.

Kraken Cookies prides itself on being affordable for the average person, while also focusing on better ingredients.

“Cookies are a dollar apiece. But if you order them in bulk, I’ll give you a pretty decent discount. If you order a dozen, it’s only ten dollars. Cakes depend on the kind of decoration … but those are like 50-60 dollars,” she establishes.

Baskerville is planning on going to college for marketing, and her business helps with her drive for advertising.

“I always have a ribbon … at the top of each bag [of cookies], and if you collect ten ribbons, you get a free cookie. So a lot of times people would tie all of these ribbons to their backpacks and water bottles. It’s basically free marketing,” remarks Baskerville.

Kraken Cookies have helped Baskerville with her passion for not only baking, but mainly marketing.

Baskerville elaborates,“[The business] helped me gain confidence that I can actually get somewhere with a career in marketing. It helped me believe in myself … and believe that I can be successful in that career.”

Baskerville is continuing to enjoy selling her cookies and cakes to the people of Owasso by special order. So go order some Kraken Cookies for your special events!
