Owasso volleyball: starting off strong
By Katelyn Fisher
The Owasso Lady Rams volleyball team has had a successful season so far this year. Last week they played in the Owasso Tournament and won, which boosted their confidence for the upcoming games this season. They have had some difficulty adjusting to new players but have worked hard to come together as a team.
Coach Kannett states, “We have a new setter, so our hitters are having to get used to her type of sets.”
While they adjust to new players, the team's goal for the season is to make it to State and eventually end up in the championship. However, they have struggled to make it past the first day of playoffs in the past.
Coach Kannett explains, “We are a team who typically makes it to state, but we’ve struggled to get past the first round.”
Coach Kannett has high expectations for her team despite their past struggles. They have been working on improving their defense as a whole and some of the girls have really stepped up their game.
Claire Reimer, a senior on the team, remarks, “We’ve had some big improvement in our younger players, like our sophomores who became juniors, and they're killing it.”
Not only have they been improving individually, but also as a team and becoming closer friends. While having skilled players is essential, having the ability to perform as a team is also needed to succeed.
Reimer exclaims, “We got our attitudes better, we got our mentality better on the court, and I think we’ve all just become better friends.”
Things are looking up for the Owasso volleyball girls this year. Adjusting to new players can be challenging, but they are doing well. Hopefully, they will continue to work hard and reach their goal of making it to the State Championship this year.
