Owasso students showcase skills at OHS Talent Shows
By Isaac Worley
Owasso students recently demonstrated their performance skills at the OHS Talent Shows on March 8 and 9. Ultimately, senior Ezzy Graham and freshman Abram Smith won their respective shows.
During the West Campus Talent Show, Abram Smith performed a violin medley of Michael Jackson’s greatest hits, cementing his first place position.
Smith began playing violin at age five, and he has continued to play and develop his skills, including performing in previous talent shows. However, he was pleasantly surprised at his success this year.
“That unexpected crowd reaction may have swayed the judges a little bit,” Smith explained. “I did not expect that at all.”
Alongside Smith’s ranking, second place was awarded to Alyssa Clark for her rendition of “Ice Ice Baby,” and Alivia Williams received third place for her piano and vocals presentation.
The West Campus show also featured two teacher exhibitions. In the first, a group of teachers performed a dance battle using various Tik Tok dances, and in the second, Mr. Mendez played electric guitar covers of popular songs, including a crowd-favorite performance of “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
Ezzy Graham earned the first place title through her performance of “One and Only.” She gave an incredible performance just days after the closing of “Honk!”, in which she played Ida, the leading lady of the show.
Graham explained, “I’ve been blessed to be part of “Honk!” and the Talent Show.”
Kenny “The King” King placed second in the East Campus show with his dancing skills, and Jayden Brown’s drum solo granted him the third place title.
While the East Campus Talent Show did not feature any special exhibitions, one act has gained a major cult following since the group’s debut performance. Weezer 2, a band featuring Gideon Hayes, Ian Conder, Levin Ward and Will McCoy, performed Weezer’s “Surf Wax America” to cheers from the packed auditorium. Since the show, a fan account has collected over 100 followers on Instagram.
To the dismay of many seniors, the Talent Show did not include Zane “Slim Zaney” Underwood, who received the fan favorite title in 2019 and first place in 2020.
