Owasso Pom Season Wrap Up

By ShayLa Blake

When you think of the most talented dancers at Owasso, it’s hard not to think of the Owasso Varsity Pom Squad, especially after the successful season they’ve had this year. After learning six different dance routines at their camp over the summer and putting in work at their 6:30 practices over the course of their season. Their hard work and determination completely paid off considering their list of accomplishments they racked up over the season.

When asked what the team's biggest accomplishments for this year were, Junior Madelyn Short said,

“This year we competed at state and got second and third, and overall we just worked really hard as a team and built up our stamina.”

This year was the first year in OVP history where the team made it to the state finals. After placing high in both the Jazz and Kick Dance categories, the team took their talent to Florida for the National Competition of the season.

Further, when asked about her experience during the trip Madelyn replied with “The competition was insanely hard and there were so many amazing teams there.”

OVP worked extremely hard during nationals week to do their best against all odds, Madelyn shared a few of their biggest setbacks for the week one being, “We had a girl break her ankle the day before we left for competition so we went into nationals freaking out, and our first night there we had to re-do our formations.”

But despite the setbacks the team still placed in the top ten for Kick and top 30 for Large Jazz. OVP worked very hard this year and intends to do the same next year to achieve their high goals for next season.
