Yes, OHS has an Art Club, and it’s been around for years! The club, which is mostly student-led, holds meetings on Tuesdays every other week in Mrs. Richardson's room on West Campus. It’s a small club with only a few recurring members, but new students are slowly starting to join.

Mrs. Richardson, the art club sponsor and OHS art teacher, said she loves hosting the club.

“I just want to create an inclusive environment for all students at Owasso to feel free to express themselves however they want,” Richardson said, as she passed out the watercolors, “I just want to help them bring their creative visions to life!”

Since there are few members and it’s a tight-knit club, they have all become friends with each other. Camila Martinez, a member of the club, was excited to talk about how much she enjoys coming to the club. When asked what made her come back each week, she smiled.

“Because it’s fun! The people are fun, the projects are fun…so why not!” she said, cleaning off her paintbrush. “I just always have such a great time!”

Art Club is a safe space designed for students to use their creative minds without fear of judgment. All sorts of different mediums and art forms are explored throughout the club, such as painting, watercolor, drawing, fiber arts and more!

“My favorite thing from last year was all the painting we did!” Nuscha, one of the art club members, said, “I like coming to this club, it gives me an opportunity to try out new things that I’ve never done before!”

Last year, Art Club had many returning members, and they are hoping to grow again this year. The club dabbled in many projects, such as glass painting, woodwork and even painting a mural on the school wall, which still stands right outside of Mr. Gilliland's room. The club is hoping to gain more members and expand its creativity beyond the classroom.

Contact Mrs. Richardson or Mrs. Bratcher if you have questions, concerns or want to know of any additional art opportunities. The next meeting will be held on Dec. 13, 2022. Art Club hopes to see you there!
