Owasso High School Parking Pass Pandemonium

By Braylon Sport

Owasso High School has recently put out statements saying that parking permits are going to be more necessary than in the past. Up until recently, Owasso students did not feel a major push towards purchasing a permit, as there was little to no punishment for not owning one. However, these feelings have shifted since the administration has started cracking down on those who do not have a permit.

Mr. McGrew states that “We give students a grace period to get a permit and they should have one by now.”

Consequently, this means that there will no longer be any mercy for students without a permit, and that administration will not hesitate to fine and even tow cars that lack permits.

This is further backed up by Mr. Officer in a string of emails about the permits where he states, “You have probably noticed that we’ve begun putting stickers on cars that don’t display a parking pass. Very soon we will start fining and possibly towing as well.”

Additionally, students have recently been parking in the teachers parking spots unknowingly. To clear confusion Mr. McGrew said that “Teachers’ parking spots are numbered.” Hopefully this will prevent any more misunderstandings where students accidentally park in the wrong spot.

Unfortunately, without a parking pass, paying the school a fine is inevitable. However, on the bright side, that money will go directly to the school's activity fund and not to a third party. If fined the money paid will go directly to the school’s activity fund and not to any third party like the City of Owasso. This helps fund school functions such as homecoming and prom.

Students need to purchase permits as soon as possible if they do not yet have one. No student wants to head out to their car after school, only to find that their vehicle had been towed. Parking permits are available for purchase online through Powerschool, or purchased through Mrs. Baethke in the senior attendance office.
