Social media has become a great resource for high school clubs and organizations to spread information. The Owasso High School's Unified Club began using TikTok at the start of the 22-23 school year. Their account has recently gone viral, and they have a growing following with over  55,000 followers.

One issue that inevitably comes with sudden popularity is dealing with hateful comments. The hate comments were very frequent when the account had first started. The students in charge of the account would log on every day, reading and deleting all the negative comments. Eventually, the negative comments came to a halt.

Junior Grace Hendrickson, one of the more experienced mentors, mentions, “it was so hard reading all of the negative things people had to say…we had to remember none of it is true.”

The bio for the TikTok account perfectly encapsulates the idea of the account, saying, “The only disability in life is a bad attitude.”

Many of the students are actively involved in the content of the account. Plenty of them star in videos answering questions asked by student officers and even take part in the account by coming up with ideas for new videos. Most of these videos come from the club officers, and the students enjoy participating in the filming.

Grace Hendrickson states, “The whole point of our page is to spread the importance of inclusion.”

Feeling included is an important part of having an enjoyable high school experience. These students in particular, have been included through being a part of many different sports, being a part of the homecoming court, and participating in the Mr. Owasso pageant.

There will be plenty more updates to come since the students have had such an amazing time creating content and bonding together. TikToks about sports, events, feelings and dress-up days will be in abundance, as long as our unified club keeps up the good work.

Show them your love by saying hi when you see them, whether it is at lunch or in the hall. Make sure tofollow their Tik Tok @ohsunified! Take advantage of the updates and interviews, and show your love by liking and commenting on their videos.
