Nurse Schlepp: nursing motivations

Have you ever needed a cough drop while at school? If so, then you have met Haley Schlepp, the school nurse for the Owasso East Campus. Schlepp has worked as the school nurse for a commendable three years, although before then she worked in the emergency room for 16, presumably, crazy years.

When asked about the difference between these two jobs she said, “In the emergency room, you often treat someone on their worst day, and then you never get to hear what happens next.”

Even though she has spent her entire life helping people, she believes that her job as a school nurse is the best use of her skills.

“I get to know the kids walking [in]. I get to see kids grow up, [and help them] with making good choices and seeing changes,” Schlepp stated.

Her office is a place that most go to while feeling unwell. Oftentimes, a nurse’s office can feel cold and desolate, but she combats this. Her office is a comfortable and inviting space. There is warm lighting and comfortable chairs to sit in.

Schlepp has dedicated her entire life to helping people, even before her six years of nursing school. Ever since she was a child, Schlepp had dreamt of becoming a nurse.

Schlepp assured “When I was five years old [my mom] said, ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ And I told her I wanted to be a nurse.”

A childhood dream come true sounds like something that only happens in a fairy tale, but Schlepp is living proof that anyone can do what they dream of.
