My take on five unique Pumpkin spice-flavored products

By Parker Haws

Lots of brands jump onto the bandwagon that is pumpkin spice, most notably that Starbucks latte you see everywhere right now. However, to think it's just limited to pie and coffee, you'd definitely be wrong; with a new flavor in trend, lots of companies are trying to find a way to give their product a new fall twist. Over the last week, I decided to pick out a few variations of this and see how they compared.

Pumpkin Spice Brioche Bread

Starting off strong with a crowd-pleaser, Brioche bread, with its cake-like consistency, is a good pairing with almost any flavor. With a little butter on top, the pumpkin flavor isn't too overwhelming, but it's still present. It has a hint of vanilla with a sweet taste that reminds me of a muffin. Overall, with how well the pumpkin blends into this product, I absolutely could see myself enjoying this during the spooky season.

Pumpkin Spice Apple Cider

Pumpkin Spice Apple Cider: A flavor combination one might not expect to see initially, this one wasn't my favorite. The pumpkin taste in this drink is strong, unlike a lot of other seasonal products, and it overwhelmed me at first. Over the course of a few hours, I ended up finishing the drink and found myself craving another one. After getting accustomed to the originally shocking flavor, I found the mix actually pairs quite well, and I would absolutely recommend giving it a shot.

Pumpkin Chipotle Pasta Sauce

“Holy freaking moly, what did I just find?” was the first thing that came to mind upon laying eyes on this Godforsaken product. Tomatoes and pumpkin seem like they could be a good pairing, with squash-like fruits and pasta sauce often being mixed together. However, the chili spice in this sauce overwhelmed the pumpkin taste, leaving just a weird squashy aftertaste mixed with a tomato flavor that might not be bad on its own, but together, it's a recipe for disaster. This could be better if paired with some other seasonings. Although, I can't say that I would recommend this unique seasonal sauce.

Pumpkin spice vanilla Oreos

A more sane-sounding pairing, these vanilla Oreos have a dash of cinnamon and pumpkin flavor mixed into the Oreo Creme. As you would expect, this pumpkin cookie was exquisite. I could even say that I would prefer it over the original vanilla Oreos. The pumpkin flavor isn't too strong, and it's paired with a slight cinnamon flavor that really brings the whole thing together. If you see this one on your next grocery visit, I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.

Pumpkin bourbon candle

You’ve definitely seen this one at Target before, if not everywhere else. This flavor combination smells amazing; I even have one lit at my house. With a seemingly simple flavor that smells marvelous, this candle definitely tasted nothing like how it was advertised. It had a very unique texture and tasted awful. If you're looking for a new Halloween treat, it absolutely wouldn't recommend this. Now, if you're looking for something to spice up that bathroom smell for only five dollars, the price to spice is definitely worth it.
