Sophomore Grace Rogers has undoubtedly excelled at being a flyer on the Owasso Cheer Team. Cheering for over 11 years, Rogers has been a revolutionary addition to the team. Rogers is a Triple Crown Champion, winning first place at three different national competitions with her last all-star team, the Twist & Shout Diamonds. She has won six consecutive state titles with Owasso Cheer and has won with the national team at ICU (International Cheer Union) worlds. Her dedication to her sport is displayed throughout each of her impressive championship titles.

Rogers spent her early childhood beside her mother, who coached both high school and all-star cheer. While Rogers grew up on the sideline, she quickly grew fond of the environment. Her mom taught her little things and eventually put her in classes. She further expressed how she knew cheerleading was what she had a passion for.

“When I was around six, I played lacrosse and took a break from cheer [] I liked it, but I knew I liked cheer better… when I was seven, I realized I really loved it.”

Rogers lived in Arkansas before eventually moving to Oklahoma to be closer to her all-star team in Tulsa. Needing to be close to Tulsa for cheer, her parents graciously let her have the freedom to pick a school in the area.

Rogers explained that it was an easy choice to choose where she wanted to go to school, saying, ¨When my parents told me I could go to any school in the Tulsa area, I knew I wanted to cheer in Owasso.¨

Rogers shared several great cheer-related memories, specifically mentioning the time period after Owasso placed 5th in regionals. She described how the girls stayed multiple extra hours and got released from practice, sometimes close to eleven at night, to make sure they fixed all of the flaws in their routine and were positive they could hit a perfect routine at state. She said that this was the best memory because of how beautifully their perseverance paid off.

While spending time with the national team, Rogers happily talked about how amazing the opportunity was to compete for her country's team while doing the sport that she loved.

She glowed about the experience and the relationships she made, saying, “I met one of my best friends on that team. She lives in North Carolina, and I’m excited to see her this summer.”

When chatting with Rogers, it is clear that she has earned every one of her opportunities and will have many more chances for success as she continues to give her best efforts when perfecting her skills and using her abilities to their fullest potential. No matter what, Rogers always represents Owasso with FLYING colors.
