Fry Fencing Tournament

By Kai Neuberger

Back at it again with another fast food battle, it’s time for a Fry Fencing Tournament. As we’re all aware, after about 5 minutes our favorite fries start to get cold and tasteless. To counteract this complication, my judges loaded up in my car and we set off into the drive-throughs. For this test we scored each category as 1-10, 10 being the best. The categories were as follows.

  1. Crispiness

  2. Coloration

  3. Seasoning

  4. Fencing Ability (Yes, we battled with our fries.)

Starting at Slims and working our way around town, our adventure began. (It should be noted that due to there being multiple locations of Arbys and McDonalds, we opted to go to the ones off of Highway 20.) Per usual, for the actual tasting, the fries were eaten plain. Yet, after the tasting, we sauced our remaining fries. Can’t let those not so tasty fries go to waste. The final results of the tournament are as listed below.

The opinions of the judges were carefully weighed. While much of the comments section was filled with doodles, some actual worded comments were worth mentioning. When talking about McDonald's all judges agreed that in our fry container was a mix of old and fresh fries. Zaxby's fries were soggy, broke apart easily, and, along with Red Robbin and Freddys, were rather flavorless. Arbys’ on the other hand, were wonderful and if it wasn’t for “Fencing Ability” as a category, they would have won out.
