Owasso’s Bill Blankenship received the 2022 American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and American Football Coaches Foundation (AFCF) National Power of Influence award. The honor commemorates Blankenship’s dedication to the Rams and their success.
Blankenship received the honor on Jan. 9 in San Antonio, Texas. He was first nominated by the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association, quickly advancing as one of five regional finalists. Blankenship was then awarded the national tier of this prestigious honor, only solidifying his impact on Owasso. The word ‘impact’ describes Blankenship’s career at Owasso well.
“He teaches his players to focus on the big picture,” comments one senior defensive lineman, “Ignore the small things.”
AFCA and AFCF designed this award to recognize the legacy a high school coach leaves on their institution and their wider community, as well as their impact on their players as coaches and role models. Blankenship undoubtedly fits these criteria, and players confirm his push for athletic excellence.
“[Blankenship] has brought a winning culture to Owasso,” affirms Logan Earwood, a left guard for the Rams and senior at Owasso High School.
Since joining Owasso in 2017, Coach Blankenship has sent the Rams to victory in the legendary 2017 and 2019 Class 6A state Championships. Impressive performances by the Rams, including two state semi-finals trips, fill in the 2018, 2020 and 2021 seasons. While this season was cut unexpectedly short by a heartbreaking playoff defeat, the Rams are ready to earn another championship victory.
We at Owasso congratulate Coach Blankenship for winning this award and look forward to seeing the Rams continue their excellence next year.
