All but One: Chris McClellan’s D1 Football Choices
By Jackson Nester
The Owasso Rams football team is off to a great start this season with a record of 4-1. One important player helping the Rams’ with their successful season is defensive lineman Chris McClellan. McClellan has received a lot of attention from colleges across the country including the current national champion, The University of Alabama. McClellan also has more than 30 offers from several other notable schools, including the University of Florida, the University of Oklahoma and Ohio State University. However, one noteworthy school that’s missing from McClellan’s long list of offers is Clemson University.
“That’s actually a funny story, I talked to the coaches, but got no offer. I’m not sure what happened,” stated McClellan when asked about why Clemson didn’t give him an offer.
With all the highlight reels and insane plays McClellan has made in his high school career, it’s shocking that Clemson hasn’t joined the other universities in reaching out to McClellan and offering him a scholarship to play football. With that being said, McClellan has narrowed down where he wants to play in college to three schools.
“I really like Florida, Ohio State and OU, so it’ll be one out of those three,” McClellan explained.
McClellan will be making his final decision in late October on where he wants to continue his education and athletics. No matter what school McClellan ends up at, it will be a rewarding accomplishment for him to play Division I football and be a 4-Star recruit out of high school.
With all of the attention and offers coming McClellan’s way, one might wonder how McClellan stays motivated and strives to get better. One way is taking notice of the people around him and having role models to look up to.
“I see a lot of people in the community that serve as role models to me. They’re doing the right thing which really motivates me,” McClellan remarked.
It’s easy to see how much McClellan cares for his community when after games he always tries his best to say hi to all the younger football players from Owasso that came out to support him. McClellan takes it upon himself to do what he can to help out the community.
McClellan and the rest of the Rams football team will try to get the Owasso community another win on October 22 when they take on Mustang, so make sure to show out and support your Rams as they continue their season. As the end of October nears, look out for McClellan’s final collegiate commitment so you know which college team to cheer on next year.
