OHS Student Owned Businesses
By Emily McCaslin
One thing I think we can all agree on, is that Owasso High School is filled with hardworking and creative students. Some of which run their own businesses. They purchase their own supplies, form unique designs and advertise their products, all while juggling high school life. Here are just a few of these businesses.

Senior Sonnie Simons uses her amazing art skills to produce cards, posters, signs and much more. She has been illustrating beautiful calligraphy for a year and a half now. These creations make for the perfect gift or even something special for yourself.
Simons describes how a friend inspired her to start her business.
“I’ve always had a very entrepreneurial mind, but never thought to use my hobby for business.” explains Simons.
Not only has it taught her different business skills, but she describes how she has learned much about herself as well. Simons thinks she may have found her true passion in business.

Mirah Montoya, also a senior, designs and sews gorgeous scrunchies, bandanas, hair wraps, shirts and more. You can even add a personalized touch and pick the fabric that you would like. Her business has been up and running for almost a year and a half now.
“I learned how to make scrunchies a few years ago because I wanted some that were different than what was being sold and at a cheaper price.” explains Montoya.
Montoya puts a lot of time and effort into making things that people can enjoy.
“I’ve learned a lot about time management and how to balance fulfilling orders with school and family and friends.” says Montoya.

Chloe Jernigan, a senior who is in the photography program at Tulsa Tech, has an incredible talent for taking pictures. She has been taking everything from family portraits to alluring landscapes for her business since August 2019.
Jernigan works very hard to capture and edit pictures to fit her clients' liking.
“I enjoy seeing people's smiles when they get their pictures back.” says Jernigan.
“Nothing will ever be perfect, but you can’t let that stop you.” Jernigan explains how she has to learn to work with what she has and persevere no matter the circumstances.

Another senior, Olivia Meydag, has a business with her sister, Chloe Meydag. They work together to create beautiful clay earrings. They come in many different colors, shapes and sizes and can even be customized to your wants. This business has been up and running since June.
The Meydag sisters “are always looking for new projects to start.”
They are very creative and are putting their visions into a reality.
With their own Esty account, these sisters are learning many life skills.
“I’ve had the chance to learn about the business side of things like marketing and finances.” explains Meydag.
