Owasso High School graduation tracks: What you need to know
By Alivia Williams
Owasso High School offers three different graduate programs for students to choose from: Owasso 4x4, College and Career Preparatory and Core Curriculum. What is the difference between the three? Each graduation track requires 23 credits, but each provides a specific way to get all necessary credits.
Owasso 4x4
The Owasso 4x4 is the most vigorous graduation track, requiring a class in each core subject for all four high school years. These credits can more easily be completed through dual enrollment with TCC. If a student chooses to take this track, they may apply to become a distinguished graduate if they meet those specified requirements. This track is rigorous but rewarding as it serves as a testament to one’s hard work. To switch to Owasso 4x4, one must have a good GPA and be on track as far as credits. Schedule a visit with your assigned counselor if you are interested in switching to this track.
College and Career Preparatory
The College and Career track is the most common graduation track, with 95% of students on it. This program requires four years of English language arts and three years of math, science and history. A student on the College and Career track must also take two years of the same foreign language or computer technology, as well as six elective credits. Taking this track allows more flexibility as the student becomes an upperclassman with fewer required core classes.
Core Curriculum
The Core Curriculum Plan is less common. Students who wish to switch to this track must speak with their counselor and must keep in mind that it requires a signed note from a parent or guardian. With this plan, it is only required that a student must have one foreign language/technology credit. All other credits are the same as the College Prep track, with the exception of Core Curriculum students having a requirement of nine electives rather than six. However, this plan is not eligible for certain opportunities post-high school, such as it does not meet NCAA guidelines.
All three tracks require the following:
One fine art credit
Personal Financial Literacy (PFL) credit
CPR training (conducted senior year)
